در ژانویه سال 1943،ارتش آلمان که از حملات متحد بالکان ترسیده است،دشمنی بزرگی علیه پارتیزانهای یوگسلاوی در جنوب بوسنی آغاز می کند.تنها راه خروج برای پارتیزانها و هزاران پناهنده،تنها پلی بر روی رودخانه نرتوا است...
