Michael Blodgett

The handsome, well-built and engaging 'Michael Blodgett' (qv) was born on September 26, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Blodgett attended the University of Minnesota and began his acting career in his hometown of Minneapolis. Michael earned a pre-law degree in political science from Cal State Los Angeles and attended Loyola Law School for a year. In the summer of 1967, Blodgett was the emcee on "Groovy", a weekly TV program of beach party music that was broadcast on Los Angeles' Channel 9. In 1968, Michael subsequently switched to Channel 11 and went on to serve as the host for "The 'Michael Blodgett' (qv) Show", a 90 minute talk show in which he interviewed such guests as 'Connie Stevens' (qv), 'Agnes Moorehead' (qv), 'Pat Paulsen' (qv) and 'Henry Mancini' (qv). He made his film debut as a beach bum in _A Swingin' Summer (1965)_ (qv). Blodgett achieved his greatest enduring cult popularity with his excellent portrayal of blithely decadent and hedonistic playboy "Lance Rocke" in 'Russ Meyer' (qv)'s outrageously campy treat _Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970)_ (qv). Other memorable movie roles include brash young prisoner "Coy Cavendish" in _There Was a Crooked Man... (1970)_ (qv), free-spirited hippie "Lee Ritter" in the offbeat fright feature _The Velvet Vampire (1971)_ (qv), and abusive masseur "Roger Hudson" in _The Carey Treatment (1972)_ (qv). Blodgett had a recurring role on the short-lived TV series _Never Too Young (1965)_ (qv). Among the TV shows Michael did guest spots on are _McHale's Navy (1962)_ (qv), _The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1962)_ (qv), _The Munsters (1964)_ (qv), _Daniel Boone (1964)_ (qv), _Night Gallery (1969)_ (qv), _Der Chef (1967)_ (qv), _Barnaby Jones (1973)_ (qv) and _Barbary Coast (1975)_ (qv). Blodgett quit acting in the late 70s and became a successful novelist and screenwriter. He penned the novels "Captain Blood", "Hero and the Terror" and "The White Raven". In addition, he either wrote or co-wrote the scripts for the 'Chuck Norris' (qv) action vehicle _Hero and the Terror (1988)_ (qv) (Michael also makes an uncredited cameo appearance in this particular picture), the hit comedy _Turner & Hooch (1989)_ (qv), _Rent-a-Cop (1987)_ (qv), _Run (1991)_ (qv), the made-for-TV thriller _Revenge on the Highway (1992)_ (qv) and _The White Raven (1998)_ (qv).
