Randal Kleiser

'Randal Kleiser' (qv) has been an internationally known film director since the release of his first feature, _Grease (1978)_ (qv). Other features include _The Blue Lagoon (1980)_ (qv) with 'Brooke Shields' (qv), _Summer Lovers (1982)_ (qv) starring 'Peter Gallagher' (qv) and 'Daryl Hannah' (qv), _Grandview, U.S.A. (1984)_ (qv) with 'Jamie Lee Curtis' (qv), _Flight of the Navigator (1986)_ (qv), featuring the first use of digital morphing in a motion picture; _Honey, I Blew Up the Kid (1992)_ (qv) and _White Fang (1991)_ (qv). In London he directed the critically acclaimed comedy _Getting It Right (1989)_ (qv) starring 'Lynn Redgrave' (qv), 'Helena Bonham Carter' (qv), 'Jane Horrocks' (qv) and Sir 'John Gielgud' (qv). In 1996 he wrote and directed _It's My Party (1996)_ (qv) starring 'Eric Roberts' (qv), 'Gregory Harrison' (qv), 'Lee Grant' (qv), 'Bruce Davison' (qv) and 'Marlee Matlin' (qv).As a writer-producer, he was responsible for the surfing classic _North Shore (1987)_ (qv) for Universal Pictures. He also directed the thriller _Shadow of Doubt (1998)_ (qv) with 'Melanie Griffith' (qv) and 'Tom Berenger' (qv). Working in 70mm 3-D, he directed _Honey, I Shrunk the Audience (1994)_ (qv), which drew record crowds at the Disney Theme Parks in Anaheim, Orlando, Tokyo and Paris. His television movies include _The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (1976)_ (qv) with 'John Travolta' (qv); the Emmy Award-winning _The Gathering (1977)_ (qv) and _Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway (1976)_ (qv).As a freshman at USC, he appeared in 'George Lucas' (qv)' first student film, _Freiheit (1966)_ (qv). Kleiser's award-winning Master's thesis film, _Peege (1973)_ (qv), launched his professional career. He has taught a graduate production workshop at USC and Master Directing Classes for European students at film festivals in Deauville and Sarlat, and Malaga. Kleiser serves as a judge on the Student 'Awards' (qv) for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and as chairman of the Academic Subcommittee for the Directors Guild of America, he inaugurated a videoconferencing program to connect film classes with working directors. Working with the Graphics Lab at USC's Institute for Creative Technologies, Kleiser has co-invented a digital Cinerama-like process called Vistarama HD and developed "Silver Metal Lover" for Dimension Pictures. In 2005 he directed 'Amanda Bynes' (qv) for _Lovewrecked (2005)_ (qv), shot in the Caribbean. Two years later Kleiser came up with an original musical movie shot on virtual sets, _Red Riding Hood (2006)_ (qv), starring 'Joey Fatone' (qv) and 'Lainie Kazan' (qv).Kleiser has spent several years working with 'George Lucas' (qv) to create The 'Nina Foch' (qv) Course for Filmmakers and Actors (2010), an instructional video for aspiring actors, writers and filmmakers.
