Gael García Bernal

'Gael García Bernal' (qv) was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, to 'Patricia Bernal' (qv), an actress and model, and 'José Ángel García' (qv), an actor and director. His stepfather is cinematographer 'Sergio Yazbek' (qv). García Bernal began his acting career as a child, working with his parents in a variety of plays. When he was fourteen, he starred in a soap opera called _El abuelo y yo (1992)_ (qv). He appeared in film school exercises and short films, including _De tripas, corazón (1996)_ (qv), directed by 'Antonio Urrutia' (qv), which was nominated for an Academy 'Award' for Best Short Film, and _El ojo en la nuca (2001)_ (qv), a short film directed by 'Rodrigo Plá' (qv). García Bernal studied acting in the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. _Amores Perros (2000)_ (qv) was his first major feature film, followed by _Y Tu Mamá También (2001)_ (qv), directed by 'Alfonso Cuarón' (qv) and photographed by 'Emmanuel Lubezki' (qv).::[email protected]
