'Blake Edwards' (qv)' stepfather's father 'J. Gordon Edwards' (qv) was a silent screen director, and his stepfather 'Jack McEdward' (qv) was a stage director and movie production manager. Blake acted in a number films, beginning with _Ten Gentlemen from West Point (1942)_ (qv) and wrote a number of others, beginning with _Panhandle (1948)_ (qv) and including six for director 'Richard Quine' (qv). He created the popular TV series _Peter Gunn (1958)_ (qv), _Mr. Lucky (1959)_ (qv) and _Dante (1960)_ (qv). He directed a diverse body of films, from comedies to dramas to war films to westerns, including such pictures as _Operation Petticoat (1959)_ (qv), _Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)_ (qv), _Experiment in Terror (1962)_ (qv), _Days of Wine and Roses (1962)_ (qv), _The Pink Panther (1963)_ (qv) and _A Shot in the Dark (1964)_ (qv). After _The Great Race (1965)_ (qv) he began fighting with studios. In England he surfaced again with _The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)_ (qv), then went back to Hollywood and a real hit, _10 (1979)_ (qv). _Victor Victoria (1982)_ (qv) won him French and Italian awards for Best Foreign Film.::Ed Stephan <[email protected]>
